Thanks so much for meeting with me to help me study for tomorrow's test! I guess my first question would have to be about systematic circulation- could you help explain that to me?
Hey Sally! Let's get started.
Well, systemic circulation is the part of the cardiovascular system that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body, and then returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart! Make sense?
Yes! Now I know the system is made up of 2 paths- what about the other one? Pulmonary I think?
Hm.. I'm not sure about that one! Let me see if my dad is in his office- he's a doctor, we can go ask him!
Yes! That is the portion of the system that carries deoxygenated blood away from the heart, to the lungs , and returns the oxygenated blood back to the heart.
Hey dad! Tell us about pulmonary circulation if you don't mind!
Exactly. The 2 types of circulation are equally important for our bodies to function properly. One just circuits through our lungs (pulmonary), and the other through the rest of our bodies!
So the systematic and pulmonary circulation kind of work hand-in-hand?
Yes, you have been so helpful. I get everything now!
