  • Welcome to OT!!!!!
  • I am going to continue to work on emotional regulation with the students today to address their goals and self-management skills. This will help them with self-monitoring and problem solving during during challenging situations and behavioral outbursts. They were able to master the contemplation stage in Tuesday's group, so this time we will move in to the preparation stage..... I hear them coming!
  • Hello and welcome to OT group! Today we are going to be working on our self-regulation skills, meaning we are going to talk about emotions and how our bodies feel in challenging situations. We are then going to do an activity about how to change some of our actions that make our bodies feel unsafe. Does anyone remember what we did in group last week?
  • Welcome to OT!!!!!
  • Welcome to OT!!!!!
  • Last time we made lists about why to change or why not to change how we react when we get upset. I know that I want to change so my body can be calmer because people don't want to be my friend when I get mad.
  • Me too, I don't like how my engine feels when I get upset but I don't know what to do to change. Ms. M, can we draw today?
  • Welcome to OT!!!!!
  • Welcome to OT!!!!!
  • Yes! We can draw today because it is important to incorporate things that you like into group. We are going to use our scenario cards and work on problem solving. I am going to read a situation and I want you to draw how you normally would react. Then we are going to draw it again but this time how to safely react. But first, let's check in. How does your engine feel right now?
  • Mine feels just right. I am happy.
  • Mine a little low because I'm tired but I am not sad or anything.
  • So the card says, "you are on the playground and someone cuts you in line for the swings". I want you to draw how you would normally react. Also try to think about how your body would feel.
  • Ughhhh why would someone cut me in line that's not fair.
  • Can you share what you drew and how you were feeling?
  • I drew myself pushing the kid off of the swing and hitting him. I would be really mad because people always do this!!!!!
  • I drew myself crying and kicking because that's what I did when it happened on Friday.
  • It sounds like both of you had a change in your engine level and you had a hard time controlling your actions. This time I want you to draw how you could change your reactions to be safe and keep your engine just right. Some ways that you can do this is to ask an adult for help or walk away when you feel like you are getting upset.
  • Those are good ideas
