And his contributions to the discovery of DNA
Phoebus Levene was an organic chemist back in the late 1800s
Levene was known for his failed tetranucleotide hypothesis
In his experiments, he isolated Nuclein DNA with other proteins from cell nuclei
Levene was actually the first person to identify DNA as a distinct molecule
But he did recover and continue his studies at Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research
Around 1896 Levene contracted tuberculosis
Studies of DNA are made easier because of Phoebus Levene
