Storyboard Text

  • Did you know Liquid has an almost-fixed volume, but no set shape. Every small force makes aliquid change its shape by flowing. Because of that, gravity makes liquids always take the shape of the container. The molecules that make up the liquid can freely move among themselves
  • did you know that The matterof solids are packed so tight that it prevents you from moving through it. Solids hold their shape at room temperature. The pencil that you left in the desk at school will still be the same shape when you return tomorrow. Even in solids there is a small space between the atoms. Depending on how tight the atoms are packed determines the density of matter. This means that a one inch block of wood is not as dense as a one inch block of gold. There is more space between the atoms of the wood than the atoms of the gold.
  • You might hear the term "vapor." Vapor and gas mean the same thing. The word vapor is used to describe gases that are usually liquids at room temperature. Good examples of these types of liquids include water (H2O) and mercury (Hg). They get the vapor title when they are in a gaseous phase. You will probably hear the term “water vapor” which means water in a gas state. Compounds such as carbon dioxide (CO2) are usually gases at room temperature. Scientists will rarely talk about carbon dioxide vapor.
