  • There was once a pregnant woman named Angela. She lives in Southern Italy. But shes always had the desire to move to the US and make money for her family and now newborn.
  • In my hometown, there was a rise in population. Which made it difficult to find jobs and support my family. Also in Southern Italy there was scarcity of land and farming.

  • So I decided to take a boat to Angel Island. And begin my new life. But the trip from Italy to the US took about a week, but it gave me much time to meet new people and share the same troubles.
  • Moving to America was a dream for most people. But from my perspective, it was nothing special.
  • Processing at Angel Island was very much difficult. There was harsh questioning, long detention in filth, and staying in ramshackle buildings.
  • I also had to find a job and a place to live. But the most difficult about my move was, adjusting to learning a language and culture. 
  • The Chinese Exclusion act was the first law implemented to prevent a specific ethnic group from immigrating to the United States
  • The Gentlemen's agreement was assembled to calm the growing tension between the two countries over the immigration of Japanese workers.
  • Im sorry, I wish we could but its not clean and safe for you outside. You might get sick or some type of disease.

  • 2 problems American cities experienced due to the arrival of immigrants were, supplying safe drinking water and sanitation. As cities grew so did the challenge of keeping them clean.
  • By 1900, many cities have had developed sewer lines and created sanitation departments. To make city water secure, filtration was introduced in 1870's, and chlorination in 1908.
  • Are the streets and neighborhoods still dirty for me to play in them?
  • No, now we can finally spend some time outside of the apartment. And get some fresh air, and sunlight.
