  • They're here. Go get the civilian and take her to the trenches.
  • Yes sir.
  • June 6, 1944
  • Ms. Marie, come with me now. Get in the trenches.
  • I must go and check on my animals!
  • Shells areexploding everywhere, and not far away, with short moments of calm
  • Oh you poor animals, who suffer the horrible result of theuniversal folly!
  • Since the Germans occupied her home and the Americans came to fight, Marie's life has been horrific. She was fored to open up her home to soldiers and she learned to live in constant fear. Now we take you to see the remains of her home. This is all that was left after the battle of Normandy.
  • Oh no! There’s not a pane ofglass left in the stairwell; in my room a hole in the ceiling, more broken panes, as in all therooms on the second floor.
