This is the story of the west
Two years after Gatsby's death... nick has tried to get in touch with anyone who really ever mattered in gatsby's life, after dealing with the excitment of the community after gatsby's death.
Nick is reflecting and remembering the horrible night of the night Gatsby was killed and what happens now. He decides that this is the story of the east and that he, gatsby, tom, and daisy are westerners.
no one, not even daisy, the reason for Gatsby's fate, comes to the funeral. only nick, his father, a shame compared to the hundreds who used to show up to his extravagant parties.
Gatsby is dead and now his home, rooms that used to be filled with life and house eventful parties is now empty along with the "american dream"
Outside nick's large empty house, nick reflects some more on gatsby's life, stares across the pier at that green light.
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter – to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…And one fine morning--So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past"
