Storyboard Text

  • It's Not an Acc(id)ent
  • My Journey in Understanding Accents Michele Calabrese
  • You could say I grew up in a pretty typical family: two loving parents, two older sisters, and a crazy big extended family.
  • My extended family is like a huge melting pot, made up of Italian-Americans, Spaniards, Polacks, Filipinos, and the Japanese.
  • It’s pretty safe to say that we don’t all look, talk, walk, or think the same, but we’re all family regardless.
  • No problem!
  • My mom’s side of the family are all immigrants from Spain, and English is their second language. This makes their English a little different than most.
  • Can you pass me the Espri?
  • SPRITE
  • When they speak in English, I am constantly, but subconsciously translating their imperfect English into making sense.
  • Can we stop at Gualmar?
  • WALMART
  • NEXT EXIT
  • Yeah sure!
