• 1/4(2x+1)-1/4(2x-2)=1/2x+3+2/3
• 2x+1/4-2x-2/4=1/2x+3+2/3
• We have already gone over a few of these mistakes in class today. So I will help with the ones we have not this class.
• 1/4-2/4+3+2/3(3) = 1/2x
• (2)4/4 = 1/2x(2)
• SOLVE.
• -1/4+3+2=1/2x
• (3)1/4(3)-2(3)/4(3)+(12)3/1(12)+(4)2/3(4) = 1/2x
• What you multiply with to get a denominator of 12, is also the samae number you must multiply with on your numerator as well!
• In this case, you cannot multiply the denominator to cancel it out. This is because whatever you do to one term you have to do for everything. In this case, everything on the left side.  A common substitute to this would be to have a common denominator.
• 4 and 3 both have a lowest common denominator of 12.
• 1/4-2/4+3+2/3(3) = 1/2x
• -35/12 = 1/2x
• (3)1/4(3)-2(3)/4(3)+(12)3/1(12)+(4)2/3(4) = 1/2x
• Now you may add only the numerator to each fractions.
• Note: a whole number's denominator is 1. So 3 and 2 may also be 3/1 and 2/1
• Next, make all the fractions on the left side have common denominators. Use the correct fractions from your last mistake.
• Another mistake you made was adding the 3 and 2 to -1/4. You only applied this to the numerator of -1/4 which caused you to get 4/4.
• (2)4/4 = 1/2x(2)
• 1/4-2/4+3+2/3(3) = 1/2x
• -35/12 = 1/2x
• Correct Solutioin:
• Step 1:
• 2/4x + 1/4 - 2/4x + 1/2 = 1/2x + 3 +2/3
• x = -35/6
• 3/12 + 6/12 -36/12 - 8/12 = 1/2x
• 1/4 + 1/2 - 3/1 -2/3 =1/2x
• 1/4(2x+1)-1/4(2x-2)=1/2x+3+2/3
• 1/4 + 1/2 = 1/2x +3 +2/3
• (2) -35/12 = 1/2x (2)
• SOLVE.
