  • The Great Flood  Gn 7
  • The important event in Genesis 7 is the flood, why it happened and the ark and what was on it. The first thing that happens is God tells Noah to take his whole household, get seven pairs of clean animals, one pair of unclean animals, and seven pairs of birds, each pair had to be one male and a female. God also told him that in seven days he will bring down rain for forty nights and forty days to wipe out every creation he has created. Next, the “fountains of the great abyss burst forth and the floodgates of the sky were opened”, after seven days. For the next forty days and nights rain poured down on earth. Finally, the water rose higher than the mountains but the ark still floated on the surface of the water. Everything that was once living on dry land had now perished. A life lesson we can learn from this passage is to do good and in return you will receive good things. The passage states “..for you alone in this generation have I found to be righteous before me” (Gn 7:1). God saw that everyone was sinning except for Noah and his family, who stayed faithful to him, because of them being good they were safe on the ark.
  • “Of every clean animal , take with you seven pairs, a male and its mate; and of the unclean animals, one pair, a male and its mate; likewise, of every bird of the air, seven pairs, a male and a female… and so I will wipe out from the face of the earth every being that I have made” (Gn 7:2-4)
  • “On that day All the fountains of the great abyss burst forth, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. For forty days and forty nights heavy rain poured down on the earth” (Gn 7:11-12)
  • “The waters swelled and increased greatly on the earth, but the ark floated on the surface of the waters …. Everything on dry land with the breath of life in its nostrils died. The Lord wiped out every being on earth….” (Gn 7:18-23)
  • If you do good you will receive good things later on in life
