President Johnson, please reconsider the lives of African Americans and the newly freed slaves!
Since Lincoln has been assassinated, I will be taking control. I shall pass strict and harsh laws to the South.
But taking away our guns is basically taking away our protection!
From now on, I will be confiscating your right to own any firearms and the right to vote.
We can finally be treated equally!
Since the Civil War ended, i have no choice but to give you guys equal protection.
I feel included into society, now!
I am very excited to cast my very first vote!
Ever since Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, Andrew Johnson became the President. Johnson's Reconstruction led to segregation and unequal rights to African Americans/slaves. Johnson refused to reorganize the Southern economy and protect the Civil Rights of African Americans.
As an African American, I feel very relieved and a large sense of freedom! We can finally vote!
The Black Codes were laws that regulate the lives of African Americans. They forced African Americans to work for the Whites. For example, they restricted Blacks from owning firearms, voting, and getting an education.
I really do not understand why you guys have issues with me. Technically, i cannot be impeached because it violates the Tenure of Office Act.
After the Civil War, the 14th amendment helped African Americans be a part of society. The amendment states that all US citizens, including African Americans were to receive equal protection.
Rutherford B. Hayes
I am so relieved to have a president who is actually passionate about ending slavery!
I won the election! I am now the 19th president of the United States!
While segregation played a huge role in the Civil War and in Reconstruction, the 15th amendment helped with equality. This amendment cannot deny suffrage based on race or color. This changed the lives of African Americans.
During Johnson's presidency, many US citizens were angered and disappointed by the actions he made. The Radical Republicans were frustrated that Johnson was blocking their plan of Reconstruction. This led to the idea of impeaching Johnson, but the senators were not convinced enough.
We need to find a way to impeach this evil, tyrannical president!
After Ulysses S. Grant left office, Rutherford B. Hayes took office as the 19th president of the United States. Hayes won the election between Samuel Tilden.
