  • The world became when Marco Polo bridge led the war between Japan and China. And on September 1, 1939 Hitler and the Nazis invaded Poland. Two days later Britain and France declared war on Germany. Then, Germany used a lightning war to invade Poland.
  • France had built a line of concrete on the Maginot Line along the German border. Later, Germany went into Belgium and invaded France. So France and British had to evacuated from France and go to Dunkirk. Then there was battle of Britain and the German air force fought against the Britain.
  • (Americans enter the war) President Roosevelt asked the Congress to eliminate the prohibition on arms sale. With the Neutrality Act of 1939 the fighting countries could buy weapons but only on a cash-and carry basis. Cash and carry was a policy by US President Franklin that means that in order to transport it they had to use their own ships and paid immediately in cash.
  • (Isolationist debate) because they wanted freedom and the committee wanted the repeal of all neutrality acts and stronger action against Germany. Next, the Lend Lease Act allowed US to lend arms to any country. Also, allowed president Roosevelt to send weapons to Britain.
  • United States supplied 80% of Japan's oil with scrap iron. Then, Roosevelt blocked the sale of airplane fuel and sent scrap iron to Japan. One year later (1941) Roosevelt started lend lease aid to china. So Roosevelt responded to Japanese aggression in china by freezing all japan's assets in US and reduced the oil amount.
  • (Japan attacks Pearl Harbor). November 27, 1941 American receive a war warning from Washington that something was going on.  December 7, 1941 Japanese surprise attack the military pearl harbor. This attack led to damaged 8 warships. Also destroyed 188 airplanes and killed 2403 Americans.
