Age of Enlightment (Books-Philsophy) questioned scientifically divine right of church and King to rule. 1789 Estates-General formed to question tax system. (3 states Clergy, Nobility, Common) couldn't agree on voting method. 3rd estate left forming National assembly. Louis XVI ordered it to close with troops and led to national constituent assembly
14th July Led to Storm of Bastille fortress by citizens. The Great fear - military stormed noble buildings. Assembly abolished fedualisation of tax from poor to rich = Equality. Wrote 'Decleration of Rights of Man & Citizen' Not women or slaves. 1789 Women storm versaille - Louis XVI moved to Paris - Clergy had all land taken away.
Gov organises itself into opposing parties - 'Feta de la federation celebrated' by Louis XVI himself 1 year since Bastille. Political clubs made politics more widespoken in pubs/clubs. Jacobens, cordeliers, Girondis. 1791 Louis XVI escapes Paris talks of 'Viva La Revolution' now favour constitutional monarch (Britain). National Constituent Assembly abolished and replaced by National Assembly (Failed) Did not represent people anymore - Pro Republic.
1792 Franc declared war on Austria as wanted to spread revolutionary ideas around Europe 9War of 1st Coalition). 10th August federation soilders captured King held rump assembly to suspend monarchy by Jacobans. Jacobans killed prisoners in prison as Austria was close 9Septemebr Massacres) This sees as harsh. New National Convention and New constittution.
