  • "I am the brother of JESUS. We are going to create a Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace. Rebel with me!!"
  • "Hazah Hazah!!!" (you know, what soldiers say when they agree)
  • YES!! Most of southeastern China is ours. We have Nanjing!!
  • We may have won but we lost a ton of soldiers. They were great people and they died honorably.
  • In 1850, Hong Xiuquan led the most serious rebellion in southeastern China. He believed he was the brother of Jesus and he wanted to create a “Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace,” where no one was poor.
  • Hong and his followers captured most of southeastern large territories and by 1853, controlled the city of Nanjing.
  • Qing soldiers, French armies, and British armies attacked the Taiping army and defeated it in 1864. More than 20 million Chinese died during this rebellion.
