I desire I was capable of going to school and learning new life lessons
Physical description of August's feelings and inner thoughts
I wish I was able to do work like the normal kids. I just hate the fact that everyone starts looking at me when I step out
August is willing to take any risk
No I have to face new kids. They probably think I am a freak.
So August meet your new friends Charlotte, Jack, and Julian. They will be helping you throughout the school year.
What happened to him and his face?
R.J. Palacio illustrates the difficulties that August Pullman also known as Auggie has to go through in his lifetime. He faces many complications when people stare at him. Because of his facial deformation and many surgeries, he was not able to attend school. Because he has even been in a real school, he has never been taught anything and doesn't know the ordinary way of life. When he started going to school he felt as if the kids were going to bully him and make him feel left out because of his face. Exactly, the same thing happened as he thought, but, some students were loyal, kind, and wanted to show respect towards others. By making new friends at the school he believed that he was a major part of the student's lives and the school.
August's first day of school
August doesn't feel comfortable stepping out of his house because as you know that August has a facial deformation and had to take many surgeries that he was unable to attend school. He always watched kids and teens playing, learning, and having fun. But, always thought when will that time arrive at him. He always imagined having a normal face and going to school just as all the others kids do and making new friends everyday. August was really imagined out a person as out-going because he always wanted to learn and explore the world beyond his finest dreams. It has been a really big challenge for August to survive in this crazy world without developing and improving himself and showing that he is an ordinary kid, not extraordinary.
Throughout the school and his own experiences that he has been through
It was nice of you guys to sit with me and making me fit in this school.
August's strongest personality trait is Venturesome which means that he is willing to take any risk that can help the society/enviornment and himself. He embarks on difficult actions that can change this life in a good way. “I would have been more nervous about meeting Mr. Tushman if I’d know I was also going to be meeting some kids from the new school”(Palacio 15). Showing that even though he was nervous and didn't to face the outside world, he still didn't give up. He believe that it was his time to face the world and express himself clearly and show that world that he can do better work than the kids who are intelligent and are ordaniary.
August's last days of school and most importantly the Awards that are given out
Thanks you so much!
August is compassionate because at the first day of school everyone was laughing at him, being rude, talking about him about his back, and not touching him because of his face. He didn't let his feelings show to the outside world. “I would have been more nervous about meeting Mr. Tushman if I’d know I was also going to be meeting some kids from the new school”(Palacio 15). Also relating to the quote “I heard other voices outside the office: kid’s voices. I’m not exaggerating when I say this, but my heart literally started beating like I’d run the longest race in the world”(Palacio 20).
Everyone is laughing at me! What should I do?
Later in the book, August became confident about school. He was making many new friends such as charlotte, Jack, and Summer. As said in the book, by Jack, "Fourthly, now that I know him, I would say I actually do want to be friends with August"(Palacio 143)."Second of all, he's actually a really cool dude. I mean, he's pretty funny"(Palacio 142). Even though August has never been in a real school before he was feeling as a part of the school and was making friendship with many students.
Lastly, towards the end of the book August had became independent and determiedn that he was willing to learn more information and about the world. When it was ceremony for August and the students in his grade, he got the biggest honor that he though he wouldn't deserve. "He is the greatest"...."whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own. Without further ado, this year I am very proud to award the Henry Ward Beecher medal to the student who quiet strength has carried up the most heart"..."You really are a Wonder, Auggie. You are a wonder"(Palacio 304 and 310). Showing that August has grown and developed in his past years and is still growing into a trustworthy, determined, friendly, and independant person.
