This is a family from France who settled in New France. Also know as a Habitant family.
They lived and farmed along the St. Lawrence gulf. This where the Habitants also worked for a seigneur which would translate to Landlord.
Habitants were giving many jobs such as feeding animals and harvesting crops. They worked all year long with no chance of a rest. Even children were expected to help.
One of the worst parts about being a habitant was that they would have to give part of their crops to the seigneur as rent.
Not only that but they would have to build churches and pay taxes to the church and government which was worse if it was during the 10 days they don't get payed.
Although I just explained the negatives of being a Habitant there is also some positives. One is learning how to produce and hunt for food. Another is learning how to take care of animals. just an extra: I wouldn't say the Habitants effected the first nations lives in anyway because they didn't do things like trying to change the first nations into Christians.
