Hazel witnessed someone being shot and started crying. George was in the kitchen getting a drink. When George came out he asked Hazel why she was crying and she couldn't remember everything, but she knew someone sad happened.
Irony - Portrays differences between appearance and reality, or expectation and result. It is ironic because Hazel and George just watched their son get killed, and they didn't feel any type of emotion besides being a little teary eyed.
