  • Today we are going to be talking about tapeworms.
  • They are worms that live in the intestines of humans after being ingested 
  • There are about 1,000 cases each year, but it is not common in specific areas
  • A person that's been infected with tapeworm will not have proper digestion of food
  • The large and small intestines are the main organs that are attacked which are vital to digestion
  • A normal person will have proper digestion and absorption after eating and no pain
  • The causes for tapeworms usually occurs when the eggs or larvae from them are ingested 
  • To prevent these, make sure to keep up with personal hygeine and to not eat undercooked meat or pork
  • Risk factors include the lack of vitamin B12, and more severe cases of symptoms can occur if untreated
  • Nausea, weakness, diarrhea, and abdominal pain are all symptoms of tapeworms 
  • Treatment options include taking medication to flush out the system for tapeworms
  • Complications can include B12 deficiency and systemic cysticercosis
  • The cure rate for tapeworms is about 95%, and it is very likely the person affected will recover
  • Tapeworms can be diagnosed by going to see a doctor and getting a blood or stool sample test done
