Storyboard Text

  • The unrestricted submarine warfare led to the sinking of the Lusitania because German submarines that sunk the ship had no warfare restrictions.
  • A German submarine hit the Sussex in 1916. This encouraged Wilson to demand the Germans refrain from attacking passenger ships, and thus it also encouraged the U.S. to involve itself in European affairs.
  • The Zimmerman Note instructed to approach the Mexican government with a proposal to form a military alliance against the United States. This directly encouraged the entry of the U.S. into World War I.
