In August of 1955 Emmett Till mother sent him to visit relatives in Leflore. Several days later his was kidnapped. Three days later was found floating in the Tallahatchie River beaten several times before being fatally wounded by gunshots to his head.
In 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the white section on the bus and refused to not move. On December 4, 1955 launched a community wide boycott to compel the system intergration.
On September 9 president Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the civil rights act. In it included a number of important provisions for the protection voting rights.
