Lucas was a painter during the Townshend Act of 1767. He did not sell many paintings but it was still his job that he loved. When the townshend act began, he had to pay tax for his paints. He could no longer afford to buy any more paint, and had to quit his job.

Gabriel and Posie were managers of a hotel their parents used to own before they passed away. When the quartering act of 1765 began they started losing a lot of money. They had to pay for the british soldiers housing, and they could no longer afford it. Gabriel and Posie had to sell their parents hotel in hope of making more money, and gave up their jobs.
