  • Pangea
  • Hi I am Alfred Wegener I am the famous scientist that developed the theory of the continental drift which explains that the continents were once all in giant continent called Pangea. After billions of years those continents drifted apart to form the 7 continents we know today.
  • There are two types of waves P waves and S waves. P waves are the primary of the waves and can travel through all types of matter. S waves are the secondary waves that are much weaker and slower than P waves.
  • Transform
  • Transform boundaries are shown in the picture below.  There is tension at the transform boundary that is called shearing, also called a strike slip fault.
  • Convergent
  • The picture below shows the Convergent boundary. The oceanic crust is made up of basalt and is the most dense. The continental crust is made up of a granite and is less dense than the oceanic crust. When the oceanic plate slides under the continental plate it creates a subduction zone.

  • Divergent
  • Divergent plate boundaries are formed by convection currents deep down in the earths mantle causing the sea floor to spread . When a divergent boundary is formed you are usually left with an Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
  •
  • Magma
  • Earthquakes are found by using triangulation. Triangulation is when three areas are drawn and meet at a center point called the epicenter.
  • A seismograph is a tool used to measure the seismic waves of an earthquake.
  • Earthquakes
  • There are three types of volcanos composite, shield and cinder. Composite volcanos are formed by explosive eruptions followed by pouring lava. Shield volcanos are built by layers of lava from non explosive eruptions. Cinder volcanos are cones made of pyroclastic material from moderate eruptions. Finally 75% percent of all volcanos are on the Pacific plate which gives it the name "Ring of fire".
