Storyboard Text

  • Act IV
  • Wisdom! To leave his wife, to leave his babes / His mansion and his titles in a place / From whence himself does fly? He loves us not.(IV.ii.8-10)
  • "Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn / The power of man, for none of woman born / Shall harm Macbeth." (IV.i.90-92)
  • Your wives, your daughters / Your matrons and your maids, could not fill up / The cistern of my lust (IV.iii.74-76)
  • "Macbeth shall never vanquish'd be until / Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill / Shall come against him." (IV.i.105-107)
  • Dispute it like a man.
  • I shall do so / But I must also feel it as a man. (IV.iii.259-261)
  • Lady Macduff assumes that Macduff deserted his family for his own safety. So, she starts to tell him off. Boy, she was wrong.
  • Malcolm says this and other negative remarks about him to see if he can trust Macduff. He's not lustful; he's a virgin, for a matter of fact.
  • Since Macduff is a man, Malcolm expects him to ignore the death of his family. Macduff brushes this off, saying that a true man has to deal with the pain.
