In Tamaki Makaurau were the Patupaiarehe(fairy people), however they didn't get along well with each other. So they split into two iwis(tribes), one in Waitakere forest (west) and one in Hunua forest (South).
On moonless nights the young members of the two iwi would play a game where they would sneak out their houses and race to the other iwi bringing a token with them . One night, Hui the son of Waitakere returned empty handed his friends made fun of him. But the next night Hui did not return and everyone was worried
