Storyboard Text

  • We do not want immigrants to settle in the South; there are no factory jobs for them here!
  • They are all my properties. I own more than 15 slaves. Some of them are agriculture laborers and the others are my house servants.
  • Almost all we Irish work for the northerners as labor force. My brothers are now working in the cotton factory as well.
  • Almost one-third of all Southern families owned slaves. 88% held fewer than 20. Slavery was profitable, although a large part of the profit was in the increased value of the slaves themselves. With only 30% of the nation's (free) population, the South had 60% of the "wealthiest men."
