During the 20th century, the words segregation, discrimination, minority, werent rarely used in everyday life. The American society was largely split between races, and they needed someone to show the American people what is was like to live as a minority, and thats exactly what they got.
Duke Ellington was a black jazz musician living in the 20th century. He used his music to provide the regular, all-american people a sense of what it was like to be a minority.
Duke v.s. The Government: Duke wanted the US government to recognize the African American rights. He had pride for his people, he wanted everyone to see and realize what it was like to life in this time period as a black American.
