Storyboard Text

  • A haiku is a 3 line poem. the first and last line have 5 sy llables and the 2nd line has 7 syllables.
  • A free form poem has set no meter, pattern, rhyme or musical pattern.
  • A sonnet poem has 14 lines and is written in iambic pentameter. Each line has 10 syllables and it has a specific rhyme, scheme and volta.
  • Acrostic poems spell out things with the first letter of each line in the poem
  • A concrete poem is meant to look a particular way on the page. To enhance the meaning of the poem.
  • A limerick poem is two longer lines, two short ones, and a closing longer line that makes a joke 
  • A Elegy has no form, but it is defined by its subject, which is death.
  • An Epitaph is similar to an Elegy.  It’s brief and it pays tribute to a person who has passed away or commemorates some other loss.
  • A Tanka poem is like a haiku but a tanka poem has to be about nature.
  • A Ballad poem tells a story. The ballad is a loose enough form that you can make of it whatever you want.
  • An ode poem simply addresses a particular person, event, or thing. 
  • Ekphrastic Poetry doesn’t have particular rules for form. What it is, instead, is a poem about a work of art.
