  • Experiment was held at a prestigious institute. It was held at Yale university and participants were paid $4.50 for turning up. The PP's were obtained by a newspaper advertisements.
  • You are going to take part in an experiment where we are going to test your memory. One of you will be the teacher and one of you will be the learner. 
  • The drawing was always rigged so that the naive pp was always the teacher and the confederate was the learner.
  • The teacher shows signs of distress such as trembling, nervous laughter, biting nails and even uncontrollable seizures
  • The experiment requires that you must continue
  • Everytime the learner got the question wrong, the teacher was prompted by the teacher to give the learner an electric shock starting with 45V and increasing 15V each time. 
  • I can't do this anymore!
  • After the experiment, the experimenter debriefed the participant about the true nature of the experiment and ensured that he was in no real harm.
