It’s probably ok. We are only a few miles over the mountains!
Proclomation of 1763
Yeh. I built our house behind the tree just in case.
if so, you need to pay tax. If you lie. That will be bad for you!
Sugar Act (1764)
Captain. Are you bringing in any molasses or sugar?
no sir I only have fish. No sugar on board.
Hope they don’t look at the bottom and find our secret cabin.
The Proclomation of 1763 was a ruling from the King of England. It said that colonists could not settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains. They were to stay off Native American land. English soldiers were sent to the colonies to make sure nobody was settling in this land.
The sugar act was passed to stop people from smuggling sugar into the colonies. The king lowered the tax on sugar so that the colonists would stop sneaking it in but the king would still get his money. The colonists were angry because their privacy was being invaded when the British soldiers started checking in on them and their boats.
