It is the 19th century and Madame Loisel and her husband Mr. loisel live in a modest, middle class home.
Madame Loisel really wants to be a higher class in society and she believes that she deserves the shiny things in life and she can't afford them all.
Mr. Loisel knows that his wife really wants a chance to all fancy so he gets his wife an invitation to a fancy party. He tells his wife but she is sad because she doesn't have any fancy clothes or jewels. So she borrows an "expensive" diamond necklace from her rich friend, Madam Forester.
Madam Loisel is having an amazing time at the party, everyone is looking at her and she loves it but then she gets home and realizes she no longer has the diamond necklace that she borrowed from Madame Forester in her possession. She starter panicking and her husband searched for hours, all around town for it.
Once Mr and Mrs Loiesl decided they weren't going to tell Madam Forester they lost her necklace, the began saving and saving to pay for the necklace they lost. They went and bought a new one that looked just like it for 36,000 francs in order to pay for it they had to take out numerous loans and save for 10 whole years.
After 10 long hard years they finally payed of the diamond necklace. One day Mrs loisel spots Madame Forester in the park with her child, she stops them and says hello, she doesn't even recognize Mrs loisel. They talk for a few minutes and she finally tells Mrs forester about the necklace she lost a long time ago and that they just payed off the 36,000 francs. Madame Forester gasps and says poor you, that necklace was paste it only costed a max of 400 francs.
