So they had an election and despite Aguinaldo not being present, he still won!
(During the revolution)
We want Emilio Aguinaldo to be the Supremo!
No! Andres Bonifacio should stay as the Supremo!
since there are 2 presidents now, Filipinos struggled to continue the revolution with the issue of legitimate leadership.
no! This is clearly rigged! I won’t accept this!!! I’ll still be the President!
you know what guys? Why not just execute the Bonifacio brothers so that we’ll only have 1 president?
*mindblown* you’re so smart!
Upon the advice of Apolinario Mabini, Aguinaldo changed the form of government into revolutionary on June 23, 1898. From being a Dictator, Aguinaldo then became a President.
On May 19, 1898, Aguinaldo arrived in Cavite on the USS McCullough, an American ship. It must be noted that during the arrival of Aguinaldo, there was already an on-going tension happening between the Americans and Spaniards.
On July 23, 1899, the first Republic of the Philippines and also in Asia was inaugurated in Barasoain Church, Malolos.
Emilio Aguinaldo, on that day, took an oath office for the position of the President of the Republic.
The capture of Aguinaldo by the Americans resulted in the end of the republic And that’s what happened during the Spanish Era, isn’t it amazing?
