This is a summary of my grandma Sophia Leung's migration from Hong Kong to Australia.
At the age of 14, Sophia Leung migrated from Hong Kong to Australia, in November 1960, travelling on an ocean liner for 18 long days.
Sophia, her Mother, her Father and her Housekeeper. Her mum and dad returned the HK 1 month after they arrived.
I can't wait to be educated in a different language. I hope that it will be easy to learn and that I'll be able to make lots friends!
When they arrived in Australia, they went inside the car of her father's friend, Mr George Leung who picked them up.
I will get to see my brothers and my sister in their house and live with them! I'll get to go to a normal school here!
Later, at the house of her brothers and sister
Here is your food! Enjoy it Sophia! :)
aahh you're welcome, Sophia! Just remember to do some of your homework! It's very important for your English learning!! :D
Thank you housekeeper! I am sure this food is delicious!
Yes Housekeeper! Thank you for being so kind to me :)
My English, no good. Help is needed please, Miss?
Much to thank you, Miss! You very kind to me! I'm so glad I can study here using my student visa! :D
Oh, some help? Sure Sophia! English can be very hard especially for you!...oh yes! when spelling 'knot' you need to remember the 'k' in 'knot' But don't fret! You have plenty of time, my dear :)
English extra lesson for Sophia
I feel very safe now being in Australia. I have a safe home and I am provided with good food and clean water. I am glad that I am living with my brothers and my sister, here in Australia. I may look different and eat different things but I am still cared for :)
Jumping through time to 2018, Sophia Mar (my grandma) is still here, living right in Sydney Australia! She still remembers the day when she left HK around 60 years ago! :)
