  • When did this culture begin emigrating to North America?  September 1620
  • What were some of the reasons for them coming to North America? The main reason for the Pilgrims coming to America was for religious freedom. The Pilgrims also went to North America by way to the Netherlands in order to escape persecution from the government and Church of England.
  • What are some of the contributions this culture has made to our society? The Mayflower compact (an agreement to follow rules that would be made), and Thanksgiving (an annual national holiday to "give thanks" and praise God).
  • Summary  The Pilgrims sailed from Plymouth on September 6th, 1620, on a ship called the Mayflower. The Mayflower stops in Cape Cod. The Pilgrims thank God for reaching the land, but they knew they had many challenges ahead of them.  The themes represented in this story/chapter are: Native Americans, bias and propaganda, and violence.
