The narrator and an old man live together in a house. The narrator does not hate the old man, but in fact, cares for him. There is something that bugs him though. The old man's vulture eye with a film that covers it.
Over the next week, the narrator plots to kill the old man, that way he can't be hurt anymore by his vulture eye, but the old man is always asleep. On the eighth night, the old man is awake and decides to smother him.
He smothers the old man as he screams for mercy and help. Finally, he hears the old man's heart stop beating.
The narrator then decides to bury the man under the house in order to hide the evidence.
As soon as the narrator hides the old manś body under the house the police come to investigate what the noise was that they heard.
The narrator then hears the beating of the old man´s heart and confesses to the police that it was him who killed the old man.
