And now for my final magic trick, I will perform the DIFFERENCE QUOTIENT!
First, plug (x + h) into your function wherever you see an x.
The difference quotient is f(x+h)-f(x) ------------- h
Once you find f (x + h), you can plug your values into the difference quotient formula and simplify
In the final step, use the subtraction sign to eliminate the parentheses and simplify the difference quotient.
This formula computes the slope of the secant line through two points on the graph of f
And that's it! That's how you get the difference quotient!
Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have told them. A magician never reveals his secrets!
