  • I do experience a lot of stress and anxiety when I see food, especially when I am out in public at a restuarant. 
  • The same thing happens to me! Especially when I am with my friends. 
  • The first step in mindfulness is recognizing emotional and rational thoughts. Then, combine these to create your "wise" mind.  Let's talk about some situations where your actions were driven by your emotions. 
  • Whenever we are sitting at dinner and I do not want to eat, I take it out on my family and get upset. 
  • That happens to me to, and then I feel guilty for taking it out on my family when it was caused by my eating disorder. 
  • It is important to first recognize that these were emotionally driven responses instead of using your mindful "wise" mind. Next time you are at dinner and are feeling stressed, instead of getting upset with your family you can explain to them, "I am feeling very overwhelmed and stressed about this meal, but I am going to try to eat at least half."
