The Giver gave Jonas the memory of snow. In this memory he went sledding down a hill and experienced snow for the first time. He learned the words, sled, snow, downhill, and runners. Jonas enjoyed this memory and wished his community had snow sometimes.
The next memory The Giver gave Jonas was the memory of sunshine. The sunshine felt a lot different to Jonas than the snow. It was warm and pleasant. Jonas then asked The Giver what pain felt like in the memories, so The Giver gave it to him. Jonas then felt his skin to begin to sting. Jonas was getting a sunburn.
The Giver told Jonas that they were done for the day even though Jonas wanted to continue on. Jonas asked what to call The Giver, because The Giver called Jonas the Receiver but Jonas thought The Giver was The Receiver. The Giver then answered, "Call me the Giver."
