  • You're doing so well.
  • Jing-mei's (the narrator) mother says that you can be anything you want. The mother wants her to be an actress or a doctor.
  • And he doesn't even know I Suck.
  • After many trials to see if Jing-mei was a prodigy child (failed), the narrator's mom begins lose hope.
  • After the narrator's mother sees a little Chinese girl play the piano like a professional, Jing-mei is getting piano lessons from Mr. Chong in his apartment.
  • You take piano
  • After a few lessons, Jing-mei finds out that Mr. Chong is deaf. So she gets lazy and gets away with mistakes and Mr. Chong won't even know.
  • At the concert that her mom and Mr. Chong planned her to be at, Jing-mei gives a terrible performance to prove a point to her mom that she isn't the prodigy child that her mom wanted her to be and to get out of piano practice. The only one clapping is Mr. Chong.
  • Bravo, bravo!
  • After disowning her mother a long time ago, Jing-mei's mother gives her the piano as a sign of forgiveness.
