What are you - doing that for? You want me to have him? Laura?
You didn't mention that he was engaged to be married.
I left Saint Louis... I traveled around a great deal/ The cities swept about me like dead leaves.
At this point in scene 6, it has already been revealed that Jim is engaged. Although upset, Laura decides to give him the broken glass unicorn so that she will always be in his memory.
When Amanda walks back into the living room, Jim explains that he must leave because he must pick up his fiance. Amanda and Laura proceed to wish him luck in the future, and he departs from the apartment. Amanda then calls Tom into the room and questions him as to why he didn't inform them that Jim was engaged. However, he claimed that he had no idea, making it seem as if Jim was lying and not actually engaged. If this is the case, his motives remain unclear.
At the conclusion of the play, Tom explains that shortly after he stormed out on his family the night of Jim's visit, he left his family for good. However despite his travels, he was never able to fully leave Laura behind. Throughout his travels, Tom constantly feels a connection to his sister.
