Storyboard Text

  • It was a normal day...
  • Phineas got distracted...
  • A horrible accident happened...
  • It was September, 1848 and Phineas Gage, along with his crew, was building onto a railroad.  He was using gunpowder and his three meter long tamping iron to blow up the inside of a mountain.
  • He was unconcious...
  • Someone or something distracted him and he forgot to add sand on top of the gunpowder before lighting the fuse on the dynamite.
  • He was still alive!  There was something different though...
  • Without the sand, the explosion was much bigger than normal. It sent his tamping iron flying through his left cheek, behind his eye, through his brain, and out the top of his head.
  • His tamping iron had hit him in his frontal lobe...
  • His crew just saw him there...DEAD!  Or was he?
  • BOSS!!!
  • About three minutes after having an iron rod shot through his head, he got up and started walking around.  His personality was different.  It was because of where his tamping iron hit his brain.
  • What's up guys?
  • People say they didn't even recognize his new personality.  It was a miracle that he lived another eleven years.  He was an important part of brain science.
