  • Wireless technology: 802.11
  • 802.11 is a set of protocols and standards that are used for executing WLAN computer communications. this uses ethernet protocols and CSMA which allows high speed wireless network access. This is used in the WIFI modems used in homes.
  • Wireless technology: 3G
  • 3G is a mobile communication standard for a mobile device to connect to the internet. depending on your contract there will be a limit to how much internet you can use up e.g. 3GBs. the 3G connects to the telecommunication wireless antennas outside in your area which provides the internet.
  • Factors that affect the range and speed of wireless technologies
  • There are many factors that affect your wireless networking performance that are dependent in various areas within the network itself. one of the factors is the network range. the further apart you are from the modem the more the signal strength will drop. As the signal spreads the weaker the it becomes which causes slower speeds.
  • Factors that affect the range and speed of wireless technologies
  • Another factor that can affect the speed is the type of chip or antenna that you have connected to your node to connect to the modem e.g. in house will affect the speed if the antenna supports only 2G but the modem supports 5G connection then you are most likely to get the slower speed.
  • Factors that affect the range and speed of wireless technologies
  • Another factor affecting the range and speed of wireless connection is if there is thick brick walls in between your node and the modem in your house. this will cause the connection to delay as the wireless signal will need to travel through these walls to receive the request.
