Welcome to Nenets Autonomous Okrug. We are Nenets and we live in chums. The chum is the living space and is made of reindeer skins that are laid over a skeleton of long wooden poles, many of which have a special position in the structure and are not interchangeable.
Reindeer is an integral part of Nenets' culture and daily life. Reindeer herding and breeding is their main work. Diet consists of reindeer meat, blood and fish.
They speak either the Tundra or Forest varieties of Nenets. Some of them speak Russian.
Мы поймали всех грабителей!
Тавна им салда!
They use russian vodka to be protected from mysterious creatures. They do not have religion but still hold shamani events.
The Nenets people have lived on and stewarded the tundra's fragile ecology for 100s of years. No developments should take place on their land without their consent.
NO NO NO
The tribe is now threatened by resource extraction, climate change and poor healthcare. Will they survive, you decide.
