Don't worry, Matthew Carlton, you got a friend in Israel Gates.
In the beginning, Matt is going out on a camp out for his club, The Adventure Club. As the president, he feels like he should be there on time. So instead of eating all of his dinner, he hides his peas in a sugar bowl. But unfortunately, his little sister, Katie, sees, and Matt has to bring her along to Tony's house.
Since the kids wern't having fun, they decide to go for a walk by the lake. But while they're walking, Q runs into a spider web. While the other boys help him, Katie vanishes! The boys find her right away, walking into a rowboat. They join her, and time travel to 1776!
After they arrive in 1776, many events happen. Matt is separated from his friends and sister, and is forced to march with the Continental Army. There, he meets Israel, a young man fighting for his siblings. After Israel sadly dies, Matt is brought to the Hornbee's. They soon send him to find his friends.
After Matt leaves the Hornbee's, the story has a turning point. Matt runs into some Indians, who have Tony and Hooter! The boys tell Matt that the others are with some Hessians. Soon, they find them with the Hessians and everything seems better.
After they're all reunited, Matt, Q, Hooter, Tony, and Katie make friends with Gustav, one of the Hessians. When he brings them out by a river, The Continental Army kills him and captures the kids. Just when things are getting bad again, Katie finds the rowboat that brought them to the American Revolution! Once they get in, they arrive back home.
Look! It's the rowboat!
Katie!! You found the rowboat!!
We can go home :)
As soon as they get home, Katie and Q make a trade. Earlier, George Washington had given Katie a pair of socks. She gives them to Q in return for marshmallows. When Matt gets home, he goes in his bedroom and turns on all of his electronics because he is grateful to be home in the twentieth century.
