It was early August when my dance class found out that we would attend the national Kid’s Artistic Review Competition at Kalahari in July. For the next eleven months, we strived for perfection in preparation of the big competition.
Suddenly, it was the week we have all been waiting for. On Friday night, I competed with my solo and trio, placing first place overall in both! I was extremely excited to compete with some large group dances the next day. I woke up, put one hundred pounds of makeup on my face, sprayed three and a half bottles of hairspray onto my hair, and put on the uncomfortable itchy layers of the costume. It was like any typical competition morning and it was going great.
That is, until I walked into the venue. I abruptly felt sick to my stomach and came down with a fever.
