  • Over 350 Million people worldwide suffer from depression.
  • People with depression tend to have a change in appetite.
  • Perinatal Depression This occurs near childbirth, or after delivery. Feelings of extreme sadness, exhaustion, and others, make it difficult for the mother to take care of her child.
  • Seasonal Effective Disorder Depression during the winter months, when there is less natural sunlight. Often lifts after Winter, and comes back around then every year.
  • There are four kinds of depression. Bipolar Disorder is technically not depression.
  • Persistent Depressive Disorder This is a depression that lasts for at least two years.
  • Psychotic Depression Often occurs when someone has a severe form of depression, plus some form of psychosis, like hearing or seeing upsetting things that others cannot see or hear.
  • They will often have unreasonable angry outbursts.
  • They can have difficulty sleeping, wake up in the early morning, or sleep in far too much.
  • It can be treated in many different ways. A very interesting way to treat it is ECT Therapy, or Electroconvulsive Therapy. This is where they apply electric impulses to the brain. It does not hurt.
