Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju was born on August 21, 1952, in Madras, India. He obtained his B.Sc. (1972) from St. Xavier's College, Bombay, and his Ph.D. (1976) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he worked under the supervision of David Y. Curtin and Iain C. Paul.
He was born in Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the 6th largest city and the 4th most populated city in India. Its the biggest economic, cultural, and educational centers in South India.
Gautam Radhakrisha Desiraju did not have to over come any obstacles because he had XY chromosomes.
He contributed to the themes of crystal engineering and weak hydrogen bonding.
Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju was awarded the Alexander von Humbolt Forschungpreis and the TWAS Prize in Chemistry.
