Rapunzel and Flynn enjoy the floating lights together. Flynn is startled to see two men on the shore and goes to them. Rapunzel gets worried and goes to see if anything happened and nearly gets mugged by the two men. Mother Gothel knocks them both out. Rapunzel sees Flynn on the boat flowing away, then returns reluctantly with Mother Gothel.
Rapunzel sits in her room pondering what had happened. She is staring at the piece of cloth she got from the town and notices that she has accidentally created the same pattern hundreds of times on her ceiling painting. She starts freaking out realizing that she's the lost princess. Rapunzel gets mad at Mother Gothel for kidnapping her, so Gothel ties her up.
Flynn is being sentenced to death, but he is surprised to see the people from the Snuggly Duckling (the pub earlier in the story) help him escape his captivity.
Flynn rides Maximus (the horse) to Rapunzel's tower and climbs her hair to reach the top. He finds Rapunzel gagged and bound. He is stabbed by Mother Gothel.
Rapunzel agrees to stay with Gothel if she can heal Flynn. As she starts to heal him, Flynn grabs a piece of sharp glass and cuts off Rapunzel's hair, causing it to turn brown and lose its magical abilities. Gothel starts to freak out as she rapidly ages, since the magic is no longer affecting her. Gothel falls out of the tower and dies in a puff of dust.
Flynn and Rapunzel make their way back to the kingdom to bring her back to the King and Queen. They are ecstatic to see her again and welcome Flynn into the family, dismissing the fact that he was a thief.
