  • Illegal Slavery
  • When a young woman named Angelina Grimke spoke against slavery, an anti-abolition mob threw stones her. She was very passionate about the fight against slavery, so she proceed to keep speaking and they burnt the building she was speaking in.
  • Elizabeth Blackwell
  •
  • We will send a notice to the local newspaper.
  • In 1847, Lucy Stone graduated from Oberlin College and the faculty invited her to write a speech, but a man had to read the speech because the school would not allow women to speak in public.
  •  A Powerful Meeting Between Two Woman
  • Women abolitionists were tying to convince lawmakers to make slavery illegal, but they themselves could not vote or hold office.  They talked about slave beatings, yet their husbands could discipline slaves however they wanted to.
  • The Seneca Falls Convention
  • In 1849,  Elizabeth Blackell graduated on the top of the class, becoming the country's first female doctor.  With this accomplishment she was still rejected from hospitals and no one wanted to work with her.
  • The men's decision to sit the woman in a balcony behind a curtain backfired because that is where Mott and Stanton met. Eight years passed before they met again, but over afternoon tea they decided to send a notice to the local newspaper announcing a women's convention in Seneca Falls, New York.
  • The Seneca Falls Convention helped to create an organized campaign for women's rights. Slowly, reformers for women's rights made progress, New York gave women control over their property and wages. Massachusetts and Indiana passed more liberal divorce laws, Elizabeth Blackwell started her own hospital, which included a medical school to train other female doctors.
