Dred Scott and his wife were slaves owned by John Emerson.
Emerson died Dred Scott and his wife were left with mrs Emerson.After living in Illinois and Wisconsin Scott sued for his freedom.
Scott sued John Sanford and claimed Missouri citizenship, but he was denied and lost the case.
Scott's lawyer eventually appealed to the Supreme Court where the case was taken.
He should be free!!
In court people of the North thought Scott and his wife should be free under the Missouri compromise but because he crossed the 36 30 it was ruled unconstitutional.
People of the North Thought Scott should be freed because slavery was wrong, but people pf the south thought otherwise.
