  • Dred Scott and his wife were slaves owned by John Emerson.
  • Emerson died Dred Scott and his wife were left with mrs Emerson.After living in Illinois and Wisconsin Scott sued for his freedom.
  • Scott sued John Sanford and claimed Missouri citizenship, but he was denied and lost the case.
  • Scott's lawyer eventually appealed to the Supreme Court where the case was taken.
  • He should be free!!
  • Unconstitutional
  • In court people of the North thought Scott and his wife should be free under the Missouri compromise but because he crossed the 36 30  it was ruled unconstitutional.
  • People of the North Thought Scott should be freed because slavery was wrong, but people pf the south thought otherwise.
