  • Conflict

  • The narrator arrives to The House of Usher because Roderick sent him an urgent letter. When the narrator arrives he sees the house in terrible condition.
  • Climax
  • Roderick tells the narrator that his twin sister Madeline is dying. Madeline dies and Roderick decides to keep her body in a vault while he makes plans for the burial. Roderick also doesn't want the doctors to examine her and his demeanor worsens after her death.
  • Falling Action
  • After Madeline's death, the narrator beings to hear strange noises in the house. One night, a storm hits and Roderick comes to the narrators room. They looked out the window and saw a terrifying fog outside.
  • Resolution
  • As the night went on, the sounds the narrator had been hearing begin to become louder and echo. Then the hear a blood curdling scream, Roderick whispers that he'd been hearing noises from his sisters coffin and that he may have buried her alive. Madeline then swings open the door and stares at them, covered in blood.
  • Madeline throws herself on Roderick and dies. Roderick dies from shock and the narrator flees the house in fear.
  • As the narrator flees the house, he turns and sees the house falling to the ground and disappearing into the thick fog. The house disappears completely taking Madeline and Roderick with it.
